Your Guide to Phalaborwa

Masorini

Let us be honest: Phalaborwa is a small, easy-going town — and that is exactly its charm. Town can be busy at times*, but you will not find the kind of crowds or queues that come with bigger tourist towns. What you will find is everything you need for a relaxed, comfortable stay: good coffee, friendly restaurants, well-stocked shops and a golf course — all five minutes from one of Kruger’s quietest gates. Think of Phalaborwa as your calm, well-equipped base camp, with the real magic right on your doorstep.

The real reason you are here

Phalaborwa’s greatest attraction is the Kruger National Park, five minutes from the cottage through the uncrowded Phalaborwa Gate. Spend your days on a self-drive safari and come home to comfort each evening. Start with our guide to a day in the Kruger, and see everything else the area offers on our Things to Do in Phalaborwa page.

Viewpoints near town

Please note: these spots sit close to the Kruger boundary, so you may come across elephants and even lions. Animals can roam freely in this area — stay in your vehicle.

  • Mine View PointA lookout over the vast Palabora copper mine — and the bushveld beyond.
  • Bridge viewpointA scenic drive down to the river. Note: the bridge was damaged in the floods, so the viewpoint itself may no longer be there — but you can still drive the road here. Check locally before setting out.
